More Ways to Reduce Your Electricity Bills by Closing Your Blinds

We all are looking for the simplest ways to save money. However, we try one idea and then we forget about it. The best way to know if an energy-saving idea is working is by knowing how much electricity we are using on a daily basis. This is only possible with prepaid electricity. The reason is that prepaid electricity sends you daily energy usage notifications. With that said, you can try a new idea, and you will notice the energy-saving efforts the very next day.

Now, if an idea is working to save energy, you must not forget it and keep doing it. This idea is to Reduce Your Electricity Bills Closing Your Blinds is simple but there is more to it. Let’s not just close them or open them, let’s do something more, the timing of doing it.

Time to open and close your blinds to save energy

The idea is to take advantage of the daylight but keep the heat out. Our sun brings light and heat. During the summer, we want to keep the light and avoid the heat. Typically, a south-facing home gets sun for most of the day, especially at the front of the house, and is therefore usually brighter and warmer. A north-facing home gets sun at the back of the house and is typically darker and naturally cooler than a south-facing one. With that said, close the blinds in the areas in the house where the sun is hitting directly.

We want to keep the sunlight but not the heat. So, if you have the blinds open where the is no direct sunlight, most likely, you will have enough sunlight not to need the artificial lights to be on.

As the day goes by, the sun will travel to the other side of the house. This is when you want to change the settings and open the blinds where they were closed and close the blinds where they were open.

This idea may sound crazy and a lot of work to do, especially if you are not home at all times. This is where I recommend having automated blinds. In my previous blog, I mentioned that an automated home may take some time and investment. If you program the blinds to open and close as the sun travels through, you will save that 10% or more as I mentioned earlier. So, you can do some math and you’ll see that it will totally worth it to Reduce Your Electricity Bills by Closing Your Blinds.

Of course, this will depend on the size and the number of windows your home has. The installation of each blind may cost you up to $75. Do the numbers, convenience, and cost-efficient homes are the future, take advantage of them.
