Home Electricity Is About To Change

La electricidad residencial está a punto de cambiar
Changes in the Texas energy industry

The Winter storm in February 2021 affected the energy industry tremendously, more than what most of us know. Home Electricity Is About To Change in ways that will make us go crazy. Is not for me to say what I am about to say but I think it is my “social responsibility” to alert anyone, at least the few readers that I have.

10 Days that made history in the Texas energy industry.

On February 13, 2021, a historic winter storm hit Texas. Yes, it was crude and devastating, however, the aftermath has not finished its bill. 4 months after the storm and we are still struggling, the government is helping the community, however, that help is affecting more than what is alleviating the core of the problem which is about to come and hit every one of us.

Government helps with higher electric bills due to overuse.

As mentioned above, 4 months after the storm and Texas is still in a ‘moratorium’. A moratorium, in a few words, is when energy companies cannot cut the power to a customer for nonpayment. While a lot of customers are not aware of this ‘do not disconnect’ policy, others are just paying their bills as normal.

But what happens to the customers that are taking (in the wrong way) advantage of this help? Millions of dollars keep accumulating. Power keeps being delivered but no payment is made by millions of customers. The energy companies cannot do anything about this but keep supplying energy.

What is going to happen in the next few weeks? Home Electricity Is About To Change.

This moratorium is not forever, soon it will be lifted, and then…

1st. The energy companies will start sending disconnection notices stating the full amount due.

2nd. A few days later disconnections will start happening.

3rd. Customers will struggle again to pay the bills and ask for deferred payments, installments, etc. Customers will start looking for a new energy company.

Looking for a NEW ENERGY COMPANY

This is the tricky part. Do you think everyone will be willing to pay for all accumulated energy that was not paid in the last 4-5 months? I think not. So, they will start looking for a new energy company. Some customers will be in a ‘switch hold’ which prevents a customer to switch to a new energy company until the past due balance is paid.

The ones that are lucky and do not have a switch hold, will struggle to get a new energy company, the reason is simple; energy companies will protect themselves from ‘non-paying' customers by raising their credit criteria to the max and asking for humongous deposits to start a new electricity service.

To conclude and my advice is.

1. Start paying what is owed.

2. Move to a new energy company now as soon as possible.

3. Better energy budget, learn how to save as much energy as possible.

4. Switch to a prepaid energy company until things settle.

Measure your efforts to save electricity with prepaid electricity.
